The Tragedy of 9/11
On the morning of September 11, 2001, the world watched in horror as the unthinkable unfolded. Four commercial airplanes were hijacked by terrorists, leading to devastating consequences. The twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City were struck by two of these planes and ultimately collapsed, taking the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent people. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, while the fourth, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers bravely fought back against the hijackers.
The aftermath of 9/11 was marked by a profound sense of shock, grief, and anger. It was a time of national mourning as families, friends, and communities grappled with the immense loss. Gear Up Foundation – Honoring the Victims and Survivors By Helping Others in Need
Each year, the anniversary of 9/11 provides an opportunity for us to honor the memory of those who perished and the resilience of survivors.
Also, memorials and ceremonies take place across the nation, with a particular focus on the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.
These sites serve as places of remembrance and reflection, where individuals can pay their respects and gain a deeper understanding of the events that transpired.
In addition to these physical memorials, countless acts of kindness and service take place on this day.
Many communities engage in volunteer work, charitable activities, and fundraising efforts to support organizations that provide assistance to survivors, first responders, and military veterans. These acts of service remind us of the resilience and unity that emerged in the aftermath of the attacks.

Estamos más que emocionados de anunciar una expansión monumental de nuestros servicios en América Latina. A medida que continuamos honrando a quienes perecieron ese día, y a los que a causa de su servicio en los ataques terroristas del 11 de septiembre. Nuestra misión de promover la hermandad y la buena voluntad internacionales está adquiriendo nuevos horizontes.
En América Latina, la amenaza de desastres naturales, específicamente aquellos que pueden resultar del sistema climático de El Niño, está siempre presente. Es una región conocida por su vibrante cultura y hermosos paisajes, pero también por su vulnerabilidad a las calamidades naturales. Esta nueva iniciativa tiene como objetivo brindar educación y apoyo vitales a los municipios locales y al personal de los servicios de emergencia, centrándose en la respuesta a desastres naturales.
Entonces, ¿cómo planeamos asumir esta misión crítica? Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de poder aprovechar la capacitación de alta calidad brindada por FEMA (Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias).
¿Qué es FEMA?
FEMA es una agencia del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de los Estados Unidos y es reconocida por su excelente coordinación de estrategias de respuesta a desastres. El extenso catálogo de manuales de capacitación de FEMA cubre varios temas esenciales de respuesta a desastres.
Capacitación en primeros auxilios: La capacitación en primeros auxilios de FEMA prepara a los voluntarios para responder eficazmente a lesiones y emergencias comunes. Esta es un área donde el tiempo y una respuesta precisa pueden salvar vidas. La capacidad de prestar primeros auxilios eficaces puede marcar una profunda diferencia en los momentos críticos posteriores a un desastre natural.
Las estrategias de búsqueda y rescate de FEMA implican métodos para búsquedas eficientes y sistemáticas, seguridad para los rescatistas y formas de maximizar el beneficio para quienes lo necesitan. Estas enseñanzas son vitales para localizar y ayudar a las personas atrapadas en estructuras derrumbadas o en peligro por desastres naturales.
Natural disaster sites are chaotic and can be extremely dangerous. FEMA’s manuals provide insight into keeping disaster response workers safe and healthy, ensuring that those helping are not themselves put unnecessarily at risk.
Una respuesta eficaz a los desastres naturales implica algo más que las consecuencias inmediatas. La capacitación de FEMA también cubre la logística de la asistencia pública continua, asegurando que las comunidades afectadas reciban el apoyo que necesitan para reconstruir y recuperarse.
La educación y la preparación de la comunidad son esenciales para minimizar la pérdida de vidas y los daños. Los materiales de FEMA cubren evaluación de riesgos comunitarios, planificación, educación y simulacros, lo que permite que toda la comunidad sea parte de la respuesta.

A través de la colaboración con FEMA, y aunque sabemos que las condiciones económicas y legales son muy distintas a América, Fundación Gear Up se esfuerza por introducir estas enseñanzas en la región de América Latina, cultivando una base sólida de conocimiento y preparación que esperamos que puedan implementarla aún con sus propias limitaciones de equipamiento.
Estamos listos para trabajar en estrecha colaboración con los gobiernos locales, los servicios de emergencia y las comunidades para adaptar las enseñanzas de FEMA a las necesidades y desafíos únicos de la región. Esto puede incluir capacitación en áreas específicas como respuesta a deslizamientos de tierra, gestión de inundaciones o preparación para terremotos, según los riesgos locales.
